Who knows what that act could be - are you going to say “good morning” to someone and ask them how they are, are you going to offer to help somebody across the road who may need it, or maybe offer to carry someone's bag for them to lighten their load? But as I write these things it's just a reminder that it shouldn't be something we do on just one day, we should do all these things every day because after all, being kind costs nothing and is so powerful to all our emotions.
In the world of health and safety compliance, it is something that I believe we do daily. When we speak of the main factors influencing organisational focus for health and safety, we refer to the financial, legal, and moral responsibility. Whenever I speak with customers and prospects, I always turn that list of implications on its head, as I passionately believe that organisations should be managing their risk because it is indeed the right thing to do! Everybody has the right to go to work, do their job and return home safely to their family and friends.
So, the next time you see somebody precariously leaning on a ladder, or lifting a load of boxes far too high, or not paying attention to what they are doing putting themselves in danger, remember to be kind and raise their attention to the danger. You might just save their life.
