The Apprenticeship Journey

The apprenticeship consultant role drew me in because it is a hybrid work style, where you don't just sit behind a desk doing the standard nine-to-five, but you could be travelling across the UK to visit sites in Manchester or work on huge buildings in London. Of course, there are still days when you are in the office doing administration tasks, such as writing reports for the visits you’ve been on.

The work culture really impressed me, since everyone at Assurity Consulting is very kind and friendly. With internal events happening occasionally, the most recent being the company Christmas party. We had an evening at an external venue. It was a wonderful experience where you get to know more about your colleagues personally.

The apprentice role entails a two-year training period, which allows you time to learn and really understand the consultant role and why it is important. As well as what services Assurity Consulting delivers and how to do them independently. Over those two years, you have monthly reviews with your manager to check up on how you are doing, what you’ve learnt, and to give you tasks that help you expand your knowledge or grow fundamental skills such as time management and how to travel efficiently.

Another part exclusive to the apprenticeship is that you get to experience all the different parts of the business, from Customer Administration to the Laboratory team. You are allocated either half days or full days, where you go and experience what they do within the business and how it's beneficial not just to the business but also to the consultants. This is very helpful since it allows you to get to know everyone more easily.

The key difference between the apprentice consultant role and the graduate/trainee consultant role is that with the apprenticeship, you have a second course that you are doing at the same time as your other internal training. The course that you do is the Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration. Personally, I like doing this at the same time as my other learning since it provides a background knowledge about why certain business practices take place, allowing you to understand why customers may do certain things from a business point of view.

So if you’ve completed your A-Levels and are considering an apprenticeship rather than going to university, do consider a role with Assurity Consulting!
