The headline stats include:

- 1.7 million working people suffering from a work-related illness, of which:
- 776,000 workers are suffering work-related stress, depression or anxiety
- 543,000 workers are suffering from a work-related musculoskeletal disorder
- 33.7 million working days lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury
- £21.6 billion estimated cost of injuries and ill health from current working conditions (2022 to 2023)
Reported through their Media Centre, HSE’s chief executive Sarah Albon said: “This year marks 50 years since the legislation which established HSE was passed. Much has been achieved in that time, including a dramatic reduction of around 85 per cent in the numbers of employee fatal injuries in the workplace.
On first glance the figures look similar to those published last year, but there are a number of trends developing in some of the detail. We will be looking at these in greater depth in a white paper to be produced next month.
