Originally launched in 2013, Cycle to Work Day has grown into a major event across the country, demonstrating the environmental benefits of cycling and the general ‘feel-good’ factor that being on two wheels gives you. It is proven that cycling improves fitness, reduces stress levels and is a positive mood enhancer.

Cycle commuting reduces congestion, cuts down on pollutants and improves air quality and the added bonus is that the more people cycling, the safer the roads become. Cycle to Work Day seeks to make journeys made by bike more ‘normal’, with the ambition of making urban environments friendlier, safer and more liveable. Commuting by bicycle is very common in many European cities, such as Amsterdam or Copenhagen leading to a great deal of infrastructure development, something which is needed here.

You don’t need Tour de France levels of fitness to commute by bike, nor do you need to dress in figure hugging Lycra – all you need is a bike that works. So, whether you are a regular cyclist, or someone who just has a bike in the garage at home, hop aboard, turn the pedals, spin the wheels and feel the wind in your hair. You will arrive at work with a big smile on your face and the knowledge that you have made a positive contribution to your health and the health of the planet.
