As we move into the New Year, many organisations take the opportunity to reflect on their systems, processes, and responsibilities. January feels like a natural moment to pause and consider not just the physical health and safety management of our workplaces, but the wellbeing of the people within them.

That’s why ‘Brew Monday’ which falls on the third Monday of January each year, is such a valuable reminder. Instead of focusing on the idea of “Blue Monday,” Brew Monday encourages us to reach out, put the kettle on, and make time for genuine conversation. In health and safety, we often talk about creating and maintaining safe working environments - but psychological safety and human connection are just as vital.

A useful question to ask yourself at this time of year is, ‘when was the last time I checked in with my team, my colleagues, or even myself?’ Just as we take time to review health and safety risk assessments, health and safety policy, and a health and safety management system or procedures, it’s important to review the wellbeing landscape of our people in the workplace too.

Brew Monday isn’t about formal meetings, it’s about small, meaningful moments of connection. A simple chat over a cup of tea can open the door to early conversations that prevent issues from escalating, just as proactive safety checks prevent risks from developing.

As you read this, take a moment to consider whether your workplace could benefit from a Brew Monday moment. If you would like support with any aspect of health and safety management whether that’s a health and safety management course, health and safety management software or reviewing your wellbeing practices, we’re here to help so please get in touch.
