Eleanor Brown - Consultant

I joined Assurity Consulting in July 2024 as a Consultant, after studying Business Management at the University of Nottingham. After graduating, I went solo travelling in South-East Asia for 4 months to Thailand, Vietnam and Bali. I spent my first few weeks in Bangkok teaching English at a local school and then I explored different places and new cultures.

I began my training doing workplace environmental assessments, which included water quality, Legionella, cooling tower systems, water features, air quality and comfort condition testing. I then went on to complete my Fire Safety NEBOSH qualification, and I can now deliver life safety fire risk assessments. This year, I am completing the General Health and Safety NEBOSH qualification, which will enable me to also deliver health and safety assessments and combined assessment reports.

What attracted me to join Assurity Consulting was the flexibility the role offers, being able to work from home, travel across the country, and plan my own diary. At the same time, you’re still part of a collaborative and supportive team, which creates the perfect balance between independence and teamwork.

A typical week for me consists of 2-3 days on site, a report writing day to analyse my findings and an office day to complete other tasks, such as sales opportunities, manage customer accounts and collaborate with colleagues.

I find it interesting being able to have access to and see parts of buildings that not everyone gets to see, such as skyline rooftop views of London or backstage access in theatres.

Assurity Consulting has a friendly and supportive culture where people look out for one another. Senior management are highly approachable, which makes it easy to ask questions, share ideas. There’s a strong sense that everyone is willing to help the moment you need it, often going the extra mile to provide support, so you never feel like you’re on your own. Beyond the day-to-day work, the connections you build are real and lasting. I’ve made great friends here who I now spend time with outside of work and have even gone on holiday with.

My favourite thing at Assurity Consulting is how we all come together on Fridays. The Consultants are often spread out across different visits and counties throughout the week, but on Fridays we all come back together in the office. It becomes a great chance to catch up and share stories. On the occasion we have food trucks or ice cream vans which makes Fridays feel that bit more special!

If you’re thinking about becoming a Consultant, I’d say it’s a great fit if you enjoy working independently, are well organised, and don’t want to be stuck behind a desk all week. The role offers real flexibility and the excitement of every week being different, with new environments, challenges, and people to work with. It’s also a fantastic way to continually expand your skills and build a diverse portfolio over time.

Being involved in a Make a Difference Day or charity day is a really rewarding part of the job, as it gives you the chance to step away from your usual work and contribute to something meaningful. One of my make a difference days was a beach clean in Bognor Regis with my team. It was a great way to bond with them while doing a good deed for the environment.

The best part of the job is that every week is completely different. It keeps things exciting and engaging and makes sure that no two weeks ever feel the same. As part of the Consultant role, you can have the opportunity to travel to new places, such as Germany, France, Switzerland.

One of the best perks of working at Assurity Consulting is having a fully expensed car, which you can also use for personal use (it is a taxable benefit). It adds a great level of convenience and flexibility, making both work travel and everyday life that much easier.
