Public health issues such as this, can have a catastrophic impact on catering establishments. The public are made aware of such events through the media and may consequently choose not to dine there for fear of their own health. Unfortunately, the damage to a restaurant’s reputation can take a long time to recover.
Environmental Health Officers are currently working to establish how this sickness outbreak occurred. They will be assessing the paper work within each restaurant to see if any critical checks have been missed which may have contributed to the outbreak.
Whilst paperwork and critical control checks may seem tedious and time consuming for catering staff, they are absolutely essential due-diligence in the event of such an outbreak. Without physical evidence that all the critical controls were carried out within the catering establishment to ensure safe and wholesome food was served, there is no proof that the controls took place.
