Is black pudding a health and safety control measure?
This week it was reported that a butcher resorted to using a black pudding to break out of a walk in freezer he had been locked in.
The door had blown shut when he went in but the emergency exit button inside the unit had frozen. Was it just something that happens, or an avoidable incident which had potentially disastrous consequences?
With my 'health and safety' hat on my initial thought was that like any emergency control, the operation of the emergency button should be checked on a regular basis to make sure it is still operational. Hopefully if nothing else, this story will remind those responsible for workplaces to check emergency measures are always operational.
