Our volunteers were Lara Batley and Julie Rahman who spent their Make a Difference Day running a stall for St Catherine’s Hospice. Horsham Fantasia is a new Christmas Winter Wonderland in Horsham with an ice rink, family fairground rides, Santa's grotto, marketplace sheds, food stalls and a bar.
Here at Assurity Consulting we take corporate responsibility very seriously and the ‘Make a Difference Day’ scheme allows each employee to take one paid day each year to support a charity of their choice. It is a fantastic initiative that allows everyone to either give back to the local community or support a cause close to their hearts.
St Catherine’s Hospice had their own marketplace shed where they offered Christmas toys, books, badges and present wrapping for donations.
St Catherine’s Hospice provides expert hospice care for people in Sussex and East Surrey, when and where they need them most. Their skilled teams are on hand to support people living with terminal illness in their homes, at their Day Hospice and on their wards. More information about the charity can be found here.
We arrived at 10am and met Emily Bradbury, from the charity, who opened up the stall and showed us what to do. We had a quick look around the pretty little market and food stalls and got ourselves a hot drink to prepare us for the cold weather! We spent the day running the stall ourselves, selling the Christmas items and wrapping presents.
Although the number of visitors was lower than expected it gave us more of a chance to promote both the good work that St Catherine’s Hospice do and how Assurity Consulting get involved in the local community.
St Catherine’s Hospice were so grateful for all our help and it was great to get involved and give back to our local community. We look forward to taking part in more volunteering opportunities in 2017!
