Tom certainly likes to challenge himself! Last year he took part in a boxing match and raised over £1,400 for Cancer Research in memory of his Grandad. Before deciding on his next challenge, the furthest he had ever run was 10 miles! When he decided to go ahead with his idea of running a marathon on Christmas day in aid of Chestnut Tree House (a children’s hospice based in Arundel), he had exactly eight weeks to train.
Tom felt that this Christmas was not going to be like any other Christmas sitting around a table for roast dinner with his extended family, so this year he thought instead he would get them to come along support him along the marathon route. Tom will be running from Southwater Country Park to Partridge Green and back three times via the Downslink.
Tom commented, “I’ve been overwhelmed by the support shown already from my family and friends running with me or my training and on the donations already received. I visited Chestnut Tree House last year, on a work charity make a difference day, helping in the gardens. I was shown round the fantastic facilities and the atmosphere is perfect for the children. This year has been incredibly tough on all charities with lots of events that would usually help raise a lot of money being cancelled. I would like to raise some funds and make a difference to Chestnut Tree House.”
