The Olive Tree Volunteer Day
On Friday 18th May 2018, Hannah, Tom K and Lara spent the day gardening for the Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre based at Crawley Hospital.
Based locally to us in Crawley, The Olive Tree is a centre for everyone affected by cancer. They provide a range of services to support patients from the point of diagnosis, through their treatment and beyond. The charity is one of Assurity Consulting’s community partners and we commit to helping them where we can each year – usually in the form of a gardening volunteer day.
On Friday 18th May 2018, Hannah, Tom K and Lara spent the day gardening for the charity. The garden area situated at the back of the centre and the team there relies on volunteers to keep it looking tidy. Before arriving, the team stopped off at Squires Garden Centre in Crawley and stocked up!
Centre Manager, Marilyn Drury welcomed the team and they spent the day relining and repotting the hanging baskets, planting extra plants around the garden, giving everything a good water and a tidy up, so that the garden was in shape for the summer. At the end of the day the team did a tip run with the mountains of bags they had managed to fill as well as a few bits and pieces that the centre wanted to get rid of.
The team at the centre was delighted with the hard work that had been put in and Marilyn commented, “Thank you so much for all your time and effort that you put in today. We really rely on our volunteers and it makes such a difference. The patients love to sit outside when the weather is nice and always comment on how lovely to garden looks. So thank you again! We look forward to seeing you next year!"
Our volunteers thoroughly enjoyed their day at the centre and we look forward to our volunteer day again next year.
