The Big Bang is a yearly exciting, interactive science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) event. This year, over 9,000 9-19 year olds and their teachers from across the region attended to enjoy a day of exciting and fun-filled shows, interactive displays and hands-on workshops.

The aim of the event is to inspire students to consider the varied opportunities and careers that studying STEM subjects, can open up to them.

On our stand we performed a range of ‘chemical experiments’ to represent what we do as a business. Our experiments included a chocolate sauce and glove challenge (contamination), a homemade lava lamp and volcano (atmosphere/climate change), a water taste and bacteria test and a noise quiz.

The event opened to the schools at 9.00am and instantly it was packed with children! The team didn’t stop, the children, especially the younger ones, loved the interactive experiments and the stand team had group after group engaged in what they were doing.

The event was constantly busy until it finished (3pm) and by the end the stand was clear! No sweets, giveaways, gloves or taste tests left in sight! It was a fantastic event for the schools, who experienced workshops, shows and lots of activities! Our team ran their stand alongside larger corporates such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and GSK.

The event was mainly a corporate responsibility activity for us and it enabled us to give back to the local community. However, it was a good opportunity to get in front of the students from all the schools in the local area. Although most of them are currently too young to join the company, it has strengthened our brand awareness and enabled us to inform students and schools on who we are and what we do!
