Our volunteer team consisted of Hannah, Rhiannon, April, George, Eddie and Lara.

We arrived at 9am and met with the maintenance team who got us signed in and showed us where to store our things. We helped ourselves to tea and coffee and chatted about our tasks for the day. We then had a tour around the hospice where a member of staff showed us all the different rooms including the swimming pool and play rooms. We were surprised at how non-clinical the hospice was and instead felt homely and welcoming.

After the tour we spent the morning in their woodland walk weeding and getting rid of the stinging nettles so that the pathways were clear. We had a break for lunch and then spent the afternoon tidying up their memorial garden. They like to keep the memorial garden perfect all year round so that it looks nice for when parents and family members come to visit.

We had tea and a delicious homemade cake before we left and chatted with the maintenance team about how we enjoyed our day and they thanked us for our efforts.

Hannah Debansi commented “Chestnut Tree House is a truly inspiring place filled with incredible people. It was a pleasure to spend the day volunteering there and helping with the grounds…it helps you realise that the things that seem small to you can be so much bigger to someone else. A huge thank you to Flick for making us feel welcome. We all had an amazing time and are honoured to have helped a charity such as this. Thank you!”
