The event took place to raise money for Chestnut Tree House and other local charities. Lara, Marketing Coordinator, was the captain for the Assurity Sharks team who entered the event on behalf of the company. The team included our Consultants, Chris H, Inka, Jordan W and Jordan S as well as Consultancy Services Deputy Manager Rupert C.
We arrived just before the first race to set up our Assurity Consulting flag poolside and a banner in the medals room. The claxon sounded at 1pm and the first race was off! The spectator’s area was busy with family and friends cheering the teams on. It was great to see the teams swimming as fast as they could to try and complete as many lengths as possible within their 55 minute slot.
The entrants ranged massively in age from young children to adults and the event was accessible to everyone with teams with disabilities entering too. This didn’t stop them from being competitive with one another and each team tried their hardest.
After each swimming slot an awards ceremony took place. David Trowbridge, Horsham Lions President, awarded each swimmer with a medal and had a photo taken with each team alongside Jayne Todd from Chestnut Tree House and Suzanne, Marketing Manager, Assurity Consulting. The swimmers, especially the children, were proud of their medals and it was a nice memento for them to take away and remember the day.
The Assurity Sharks raced in the 2pm slot and warmed up in the swimming pool rapids before they began. Even though some were more experienced than others, each member put in a massive effort and they finished their 55 minute time slot with an impressive 141 lengths!
The event was well organised and the atmosphere was jovial with music playing throughout. A total of 4167 lengths were swam and over £11,000 pledged with more to come!
Lara commented, “The event was so much fun and was for a great cause. We decided to donate 100% of our fundraising to Chestnut Tree House as they are our charity of the year for 2018. We beat our fundraising target and raised an amazing £585! Thank you to everyone who donated and to our swimmers for taking part!”
